DON COOPER - Talented
Don Cooper was born in Creggan in 1954. He had a great love for music which he shared with his family and friends everywhere he travelled. Many hold happy memories of the times they shared with Don, especially his seven sisters who loved to harmonise with him as he played the guitar with his brothers Jim and Tony.
Don Cooper's musical career rose to prominence in the 1970s when he was the lead singer of Cricklewood Green. In the 1980s he represented Derry in RTE's SBB show. During his years he played in other bands, including August and Slide, which had full capacity crowds wherever they played.
In the early 1990s Don left Derry for a short time and travelled to Wales where he recorded a collection of his own music. A well-known loved favourite of this collection is a song called Childhood Days which tells a story of growing up in Bligh's Gardens.
More recently, Don moved to Wexford where he found great happiness and shared many wonderful times with his sister Goretti and his brother Harry as they visited the many local establishments sharing with others their shared love for music and people.
Don passed away on 27th April at Wexford General Hospital after a short illness surrounded by his wife, Carol, daughters, sisters, brother, and loved ones.
