I Could Stare Into Your Eyes Forever
This song is in memory of my Mum and Dad, married 1st May 1948
I wrote the song 'I Could Stare Into Your Eyes', imagining how they would have felt, setting eyes on each other for the first time, after being pen pals for years during the war.
They went on to marry and this incredible romance developed into 69 years of marriage until they sadly passed away at the end of 2017, within 49 days of each other.
Peter and Helen’s Story
My Mother Helen was born in County Longford, one of 12 children. In the early 40’s She came over to Birmingham England.
My Dad Peter was born in Nottingham, an only son.
In 1944 whilst he was fighting in the second world war.
His close companion had a fiancé to whom he regularly wrote letters.
Dad asked if maybe his friends fiancé had another girl-friend to whom he could write.
She did and until the end of the war my Dad had a pen-pal to help ease the hardship of being away from home in such difficult circumstances
When Dad was de-mobbed he returned with a bundle of letters in hand and wanted to meet the lady with whom he had shared such intimate moments by post
They met and the lady became his sweetheart, his wife and later my mother.
For over 70 years they remained inseparable sharing their 69th wedding anniversary on 1st May 2017 at their home in Co.Wexford. Ireland
Sadly before Christmas 2017 they both passed away - My Mum first. My dad couldn’t live without her and passed away 49 days later, just a few months away from their 70th wedding anniversary.
I felt compelled to write this song about their incredible romance and with help from Declan Cosgrove and the fabulous voice of Imelda Kehoe, we were able to produce something a little bit special, to honour them.
I pray they would be happy with the result.
